The prices Hotel Tracker monitors come from Google Hotels metasearch data, accessed through a search API. Google Hotels aggregates rates from many booking sites, so your tracker sees the cheapest available rate for your exact stay. The final price always applies at the booking provider and can vary by provider, taxes, and currency.
What Google Hotels data covers
Google Hotels lists virtually every hotel worldwide, from large chains to small independents. If you can find your hotel on Google, Hotel Tracker can track it. For each check, the tracker pulls the current rate for your exact stay — same hotel, same dates, same number of guests — and compares it to your target. How often that happens is explained in How often are prices checked?
Why the price you see can differ
Metasearch data is a snapshot across many providers, so small differences are normal:
- Different booking sites offer the same room at different rates.
- Taxes and fees are not always displayed the same way by every provider.
- Currency matters: you can track prices in USD, EUR, CHF, or GBP, and conversion can shift the total.
- The tracked rate is the cheapest available room, which may be a different room category than the one you booked.
The binding price is always the one shown at the booking provider when you complete the reservation.
What this means for your alerts
An alert from Hotel Tracker — hotel price alert and rebooking guidance — is a prompt to look, not a locked-in quote. Prices can move again between the check and your click, so review the offer soon and compare it against your booking before acting. That decision process is covered in What happens after a price-drop alert? — and if you want to see how this approach compares to other tools, read our price alert comparison.
