Resort fees, taxes, rate conditions and the parts of a hotel booking that only become visible at the desk.
The headline rate is rarely the amount that leaves your account. Resort or destination fees, city and tourist taxes and parking are frequently added at the property rather than at checkout, and they are not always shown in the same currency or at the same point in the booking flow.
That matters for comparing offers: two rates that look ten euros apart can be forty apart once everything is added. The only comparison that means anything is the total for your stay, at the property, including everything the hotel will charge you on site.
The same is true of rate conditions. „Free cancellation“ has a deadline, „breakfast included“ sometimes is not, and the difference between rate types is usually written where nobody reads it.
